microwave chips

slice potatoes as thin as possible, soak and rinse in cold water, lay on a single layer on paper towels, microwave in 2-minute intervals for what seems like about half an hour, until brown and crispy.
birthday dinner
Rahul made me salad and pan-fried breaded perch for my birthday dinner.
Food camp!
I went to Madison Food Camp the other day with Rahul, Erin, and Ellen from our book club. It was great. $10 and I learned about:
- growing mushrooms at home (well, kind of knew about this already–the toilet paper as growing medium was interesting)
- Eastern sourdough traditions (injera, dosas)–the dosas couldn’t live up to Rahul’s mom’s ones but I did get to take home a little cup of sourdough starter for normal Western-style sourdough
- home-cured bacon (no samples?! what?!?!)
- homemade feta cheese (we sampled it–so creamy, it was amazing)
Looking forward to making some bread and maybe fresh mozzarella.
